Tax Manager

About the role

The Tax Manager leads our tax preparation and quarterly tax planning services — reviewing returns, supporting staff, and helping small business owners make proactive, confident tax decisions all year long. You'll be a senior voice on the team, shaping how we deliver tax strategy to the owner-operators who trust us with their livelihood. We use QuickBooks Online and Gusto as our preferred software stack.

What you'll do

• Prepare and review business and individual tax returns
• Conduct quarterly tax planning meetings with clients
• Research tax issues and ensure compliance with current tax laws
• Review work prepared by staff and provide thoughtful feedback
• Mentor junior team members and help them grow technically
• Communicate tax strategies clearly — translate complex rules into plain language
• Identify tax-saving opportunities clients wouldn't find on their own
• Maintain technical expertise as laws and regulations evolve
• Improve our tax workflows and processes so the whole team works smarter

What we're looking for

• EA, CPA, or equivalent tax credential, active and in good standing
• 5+ years of business and individual tax experience
• Strong reviewer's eye — you spot issues without slowing the team down
• Comfortable leading client conversations and explaining strategy clearly
• US-based, authorized to work in the US

Nice to have

• Experience with S-corps, partnerships, and multi-state filings
• Background mentoring or managing junior preparers
• Familiarity with QuickBooks Online, Gusto, and modern tax software
